The first meeting of Radnage W.I. was held in the Pavilion in October 1927. 30 prospective members attended, and the new W.I. was formed. Our banner (see above left) was produced in 1934 and the tablecloth (above right) was produced in 1965. Since 1927 we have met on the first Wednesday of each month, (except August) The meetings were held in the pavilion until the new hall was built, and Radnage W.I. was at first an afternoon institute. It became an evening Institute in December 1976 when Mrs. Musgrave was President, and the W.I. members still numbered 30. We are now a much smaller band, of 15 members. We do still have the same format at our meetings, W.I. business followed by an interesting speaker. We still go on outings, just our Institute, or with the Bucks Federation on Women’s Institutes. In alternate years we give a bursary for Denman the W.I. college, to any one member wishing to attend a course there. Fund raising is still important, and we raise funds for local Charities and Hospices.

The pace of life has changed somewhat since that first meeting in 1927, but I think that the W.I. can still give the “Noughties Woman” the support of friends and like minded people that it did to her predecessors in the 1920’s and 30’s, and long may it continue to do so.
